the changing table is so fun

By Ryan & Betsy

This picture pretty much sums up Linus’ reaction to his changing table. He freakin’ loves it. Every time we lay him down on it, he starts smiling and making this noise that sounds like the beginning of a giggle. I’ve tried to analyze this behavior: what exactly is it that he loves so much? Is he relieved to have a clean diaper? Does he get excited to be naked? Maybe he likes a cold wet wipe on his rear? I think I would rather not know. Regardless, it’s nice that he likes it so much, since we spend approximately half of our waking hours there.

Linus gave us his first real smile just one day shy of his one-month birthday. Since then, he’s smiling more every day, and it’s kind of ridiculous how goofy we get whenever we see one appear. It should be embarrassing, except that we’re so obsessed that we can’t even be bothered with thinking about how dopey we’re appearing to the rest of the world. Ah, parenthood!

I’m a little behind in posting this, but Linus had his one-month checkup on 12/23 and Dr. Snow gave him an A+. Okay, she didn’t actually say he was perfect, but I could tell that’s what she was thinking. She’s not an idiot, you know. Anyway, Linus is has grown to 23 inches long (90th percentile) and 10lb 10oz (75th percentile). I am amazed that I’ve produced a human that is in the 90th percentile for height. I always joked that I married Ryan so my kids would have genes for being tall and artistic (or was I really joking?). One down, one to go!

PS–These pics were taken at 5 1/2 weeks. He has changed so much already!
