park with the cousins

By Ryan & Betsy

Cousins Colton and Sulley visited us in Silver Spring last week and the weather was perfect for the park. The kids had a great time, except for when we tried to get a group picture of them in their Vail fleeces (gifts from Baba & Granddad)…Sulley wasn’t a big fan.

Colton and Sulley make a run for it. Linus thinks about how much he loves the slide.

You can’t tell from this picture, but Linus actually enjoys swinging. He leans really far back the whole time and looks super uncomfortable, but I can tell he likes it.

Linus is more of a “I’m just here for the ride” kinda guy. Hey, at least Ryan was having fun.

After a while, Linus let us know he was ready for a bottle by throwing a complete fit. I imagine that in his mind, he’s saying in a nasty tone, “It’s about time you gave me this bottle. Thanks for letting me starve, Mom.

water baby

By Ryan & Betsy

Here’s the boat floatie I mentioned earlier. It was a BIG hit with the kid. Here he is eyeing his cousins, plotting how to ram into them like bumper cars.

Colton & Sulley would like to know what’s the deal with that jerk in the car behind them. Get off our bumper, man!

Rush hour traffic is stressful for everybody.

After the pool, it’s time to take a break from the water…in the lake!

…and then back to the pool. This kid can’t get enough of the water!

sml

By Ryan & Betsy

We had a fabulous Fourth of July at Baba & Granddad’s house on Smith Mountain Lake. The weather was beautiful…not too hot, not humid, and plenty of sunshine. Baba watched the kiddos (Linus and cousins Colton & Sulley) one night and let the rest of us go out on the boat to watch fireworks (with cocktails, of course!). It was absolutely fantastic to be out on the water for an hour sans baby.

Chocolate ice cream was just one of the many things Linus loved about the lake. He continued to demonstrate his love of water by happily passing time in the baby pool that Baba set up on the dock. The cold water didn’t bother him one bit–he could have played in that thing all day. In fact, I have a great pic of him in his little floatie that I need to dig up and post. More on that later.

Family pic at the creamery. Look how happy we all are. We get that way when homemade ice cream is involved. Maybe we’re just country folk after all.

pool time

By Ryan & Betsy

This weekend marked Linus’ first trips to the pool. Saturday we met the Arlington Allen’s at Belle Haven CC, where we braved the chilly baby pool. It was COLD, but none of the kids-Linus included-seemed to care. Notice how the only swim gear he’s sporting is a swim diaper. No bathing suit, no SPF water shirt, no swimmies, nothing. I didn’t even realize that he would need a bathing suit until I saw all the other little kids in theirs…duh!

Linus became super excited when he spotted his cousin Sulley across the pool. It was either because he recognized her…

…or because he loves pink swim gear…but either way, he was loving some Sulley Bear!

Sulley, however, was more interested in removing his hat.

baby party

By Ryan & Betsy

Thanks to Stacey and The Gary for a great Baby Holiday Party! I think at one point there were at least ten babies at the house…it was definitely a big change from holiday parties of years past. Linus wore his Christmas sleeper (thanks Baba) and behaved very well all night. I think he is going through some sort of growth spurt because he seems to be eating much more over the past few days…he seems pretty happy most of the time as long as he is not hungry. I haven’t had any screaming fits (yet) that I can’t resolve by the usual remedies–diaper change, burping, food, etc., although I’m sure I just jinxed myself by saying that.

It was great fun to line up all the babies on the couch for the photo shoot…at least it was fun for us parents.

Here’s Linus with cousins Colton & Sulley. This was their first meeting and as you can clearly see, they got along fabulously.

Ingrid incorrectly believed herself to be baby-free by hiring a babysitter for Lucy. Not so fast, Ing! Everyone is fair game as temporary baby-holder! Here she is with Ollie & Linus in their matching outfits.
